Situated in the old Walton Hall estate, this is generally regarded as the premier municipal course in the north of England. It began with nine holes in
1971, was extended and redesigned six years later by Dave Thomas and Peter
Allis, and is now a championship standard 6800 yards with 3 par 3's over 200
yards long.
In a picturesque parkland setting, with fine views from the
13th tee, it boasts many mature trees and a lot of water which comes in to play
on seven of the holes. The course was featured in the BBC Golf Magazine article
"The Best Courses in Britain for under aTenner a Round", Summer
1994.

The clubhouse and pro's shop are
located in the converted stables of Walton Hall itself, which also features a
heritage centre, together with top class conference facilities, gardens,
mini-zoo, children's play area, bowling green, crazy golf and pitch-and-putt. It
is busy at weekends when tee times have to be booked in advance.
